The Myth of the Glamorous Writer

Most people think writers look like this

But, in my experience, on any given day, a writer actually looks like this

  1. Personally, I like the second one. I like comfy looking writers like myself. So, I say the 2nd one is perfect!

  2. Thanks, Kristy. Had to include Barbara Cartland, though. I sometimes feel I need a chaise lounge and someone to whom I can dictate my novels...

  3. LOL! Actually, the second one looks WAY better than I normally look on deadline.

  4. She's going to turn that dog into a coat...then use weird turns-of-phrases for reproductive parts. I vote for the second as well. The second lady should still wear a tiara though. A little one.

  5. Where's the headphones? Or earplugs?

I think instead of a tiara, there should be the straw for direct intake of coffee/tea from the pot.

  6. lol..I think you still look pretty Glam, Sally. Only one coffee cup? And where's all the 'dead bodies' (empty chocolate bar wrappers)...lol

  7. Tanya, the only thing I forgot was the T-shirt with a saying. Doh! I should have been wearing my "It's a whole thing with a deal" shirt. You know, the one I'm wearing right now....

  8. But, Nicki, I think the tiara is for special occasions. Then again, maybe I would be a better writer if I wore it while I was writing. Hmmm.

I don't THINK Barbara Cartland ever turned the dog into a coat, but I'm not going to swear to it. If she used purple prose, I missed that era. I was only exposed to the little historicals where you could essentially exchange names and titles...

  9. Pamela, I usually play the music on the computer while I write unless I'm writing at night and trying to drown out the TV. Will look into the straw possibility.

Erin, I recently cleaned my workspace. Yep. That's clean. Hence, the lack of wrappers and extra coffee cups--you caught me on that one. Sometimes there are also errant Cheeze-its.

  10. At least you're dressed. My fav attire while writing is PJs....and there's a warmer under my coffee cup so it doesn't go cold on me if the muse hits and I forget I need coffee until the thought is down.
